In this post, we’re showcasing two beautiful locations where night lights take center stage:

Winter often feels gloomy in northern countries with frequent snow and early sunsets. To combat this, Quebec, Canada’s second most populous city, decided to brighten up its streets in a unique and creative way.

The Société de Développement Commercial du Quartier Montcalm partnered with the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec to bring some light and color to the city. They borrowed the works of two artists from the museum’s private collection.

This collection features 34 giant lampshades created by Alfred Pelland and Fernand Leduc. The installation, called Lightemotion, places these artistic pieces along both sides of Cartier Avenue. Although it’s a temporary setup and will be taken down in March, it might be replaced by other artists’ work throughout the year.

It’s a wonderful way to add warmth and vibrancy to cities during the winter months!

Now, let’s talk about the Netherlands, a country where cycling is deeply ingrained in the urban lifestyle and highly valued as an eco-friendly mode of transport. With 30,000 kilometers of bike paths, including national cycling routes, and over 400 kilometers in Amsterdam alone, the Netherlands is a cyclist’s dream. According to the Copenhagenize Index, which ranks 150 cities on their bike-friendliness, Amsterdam takes the top spot, followed by Copenhagen and Utrecht.

Given this cycling culture, it’s no surprise that the Netherlands is home to a unique bike path that glows and mimics a field of blue stars. This 600-meter long path created by Studio Roosegaarde is located in Nuenen, where Van Gogh once lived, and is inspired by his famous painting ‘Starry Night.’
